On February 18, 2016, ARF-D Supreme Council of Armenia Chairman Aghvan Vardanyan and member Lilit Galstian held a meeting with the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Dr. Piotr Świtalski, at the premises of the delegation in Yerevan.
The parties discussed about the political developments in the country and the approach of ARF-D towards those.
Regarding the developments that occurred after the referendum on the Constitution, Vardanyan underlined that with the new Constitution not only a wide field for radical governance and systemic changes has opened, but also a fertile ground for the progress of the country has been created. He also added that the ARF-D has always been in favour of constructive dialogue and that it is actively engaged in the process of the drafting of the laws which will have to derive from the new Constitution. According to Vardanyan the drawing of a new Election Law is currently a priority, and the support of international organizations such as the EU in the direction of that Law’s implementation will be important.
Lilit Galstian referred especially to the necessity of the consistent efforts of the European Union which aim at the establishment of the democratic reforms and the civic institutes in Armenia.
The interlocutors also exchanged their concerns on issues pertaining to the stability and security of the wider region.
Ambassador Świtalski expressed his readiness in supporting the deepening of the dialogue between Armenia and the European Union as well as the realization of the projects directed to democratic reforms.
Both sides agreed to the importance of holding similar meetings and exchanging their views.
