Assembly Stresses Importance of Unity, Elects New Supreme Council
(armenianweekly.com) AGHVERAN, Armenia—The General Assembly of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D) of Armenia, took place April 29-May 1 in Aghveran, during which the last 2 years of the Supreme Council’s activities were reviewed, while strategic guidelines were set for the next term.
According to a statement released by the ARF-D Armenia Supreme Council press office, the assembly reinstated the ARF-D’s commitment to Armenia’s new constitution and the party’s determination to work with the new opportunities and mechanisms that the new framework provides. In this context, the assembly established that the ARF-D would seek to become a leading player in the country’s governance, and will help establish a fair judicial system, which will ensure citizens’ rights and freedoms, good governance, free elections, and help overcome poverty, unemployment, and emigration.
The assembly also stressed the importance of the role of the youth and women in the party, as well as the need for new methods in public relations. During the meeting, participants also assessed the recent co-operation between the ARF-D and the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and stressed the importance of the agreement as a way to implement radical and qualitative changes within the country.
During the assembly, it was established that the party will participate in the upcoming local and parliamentary elections with all its potential and entire organizational structure, in order to expand its presence in various levels of government and have a more effective impact on the various challenges and threats to the country. The ARF-D will also continue to utilize its global network, which works towards the international recognition of the Nagorno-Karabagh Republic (Artsakh/NKR), the preservation of the Armenian identity in the Diaspora, the advancement of the Armenian Cause, as well as the improvement of Armenia’s position on the international stage.
The assembly also focused much of its attention on the latest developments in the NKR conflict and stressed the importance of the unity displayed by the Armenian nation at this crucial time. The assembly praised the will and determination of the Armenian and NKR Armed Forces in their unwavering protection of the Armenian homeland, but also expressed deep concern about the problems and challenges that emerged during and after the “four-day war” (April 2-5).
The ARF-D Armenia General Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to ensure that the NKR is involved as a party in negotiations alongside the Republic of Armenia, in order to ensure the complete security of the region and the safety of civilians.
At the conclusion of the assembly, Aghvan Vardanyan (chair), Mikael Manukyan, Hrach Tadevosyan, Petros Meghryan, Davit Lokyan, Levon Mkrtchyan, Artsvik Minasyan, Ishkhan Saghatelyan, Arsen Hambardzumyan, Gagik Gevorgyan, Ashot Papazyan, Samvel Yeranyan, and Romik Manukyan were elected as members of the ARF-D Supreme Council, reported the ARF-D Armenian Supreme Council press office.
